Event - Archbishop Longley Opens and Blesses our New Building
29 November 2018
November 29th 2018, marked a special day in the history of St. Margaret Mary School. Our Good Shepherd Archbishop Longley visited our school and parish to officially open the new teaching block in our school.
The day began with our friends from One Life music opening our special retreat day based around the Good Shepherd.
From there KS2 went over to our parish church to celebrate Mass with Archbishop Bernard and Father Simon. This was a truly wonderful celebration with members of our Parish, Governing body and past staff coming together to give thanks for the work that takes place in our school.
Following the celebration of Mass, Archbishop Bernard and all of our guests returned to school and there a prayer service was held and each of the new classrooms were blessed as places 'where the Gospel is proclaimed.
A reception was held to further celebrate this event and gifts from Mr Aldred and the children were given to Archbishop Bernard.
The Head Boy and Head Girl presented him with a card signed by everyone in school with an image of our school patron Saint Margaret Mary on the front cover. The card also had hearts cut out with prayers inside them to symbolise the devotion to the sacred heart Saint Margaret Mary had.
Our children continued with our retreat day with Dan and Emily and our day ended with a reflective prayer service in which we gave thanks for the new block and all of the hard work that will be taking place within it.
This was a really special day for our school - a day that will live long in the memory for all of us.
